Why I Am Okay with Kids Watching TV

Some parents choose to have their children not watch any television, and while I am not apposed to that idea (all the power to you guys, that's not easy) I still think that there is value in the ol' tv.

1.) It is a tool. Most people feel guilty when they turn on the tv to accomplish a task. Why should they? I think it is more healthy to recognize that you are using it as a tool, so you can plan how you can use it effectively and responsibly.

2.) It allows kids to participate in a cultural norm. Somethings kids watch on tv will carry over into their adulthood. For example, I was raised on Disney movies so now I can understand, appreciate and participate in the jokes and commentary. This is gives me common ground with other people in my generation.

3.) Movies can teach lessons and facts. Magic School Bus, Veggie Tales, Nature Documentaries, and shows like Drive Through History are all great examples of how kids can learn while enjoying the tv.

So there you have it!

I love watching tv too! (Fold laundry while watching Netflix!) ~ Younger You.

Random Tips

Tip 1: Use a broom to sweep toys and floor at the same time! Then when they get into a pile, just organize and then layaway! (Don't forget to sweep up the pile of junk too!)

Tip 2: Chain your cords of appliances on counter tops to create a clutter free counter.

Tip 3: If you don't want you kids to have a milk bottle, but they won't go down without one, splash a little milk in it, fill with water and top it off with some more.

Tip 4: Instead of getting new toy sets every year, add more to their existing sets or collections. (Like new food for their kitchen set, or new cars and tracks for hot wheels.)
